Im only on chapter 4. Im just spamming upgrades with all the random items I have received so far. For all I know I am completely playing the game wrong, but as with every FF game I play, first run is a trial.
I just hit DVD 2. Please tell me its going to get more interesting then having become an l'cie and wanting to kill the fal'cie?

I just played it through without leveling up in any way because I wanted to know the sory first. Died 2 times each fight - really challenging when your people die with 2 hits and you have to change your paradigma every 10 seconds. The boss fight was super easy, though O_o
Now I'm gonna play it again and make myself ultimative weapons!
omega-sword: Organix (can be bought at Gilgamensh's shop); Catalysator: Cobalt (buy for 17.000) -> Apocalypse; Catalysator: Trapezohedron (buy for 2.000.000 or dismantle * weapons - for example Kain's lance) -> Omega-Sword (translation from German, dunno if the weapons are actually called like that in the English version)
Ribbon: -> Get it from the chocobo treasure hunt or -> from Catrines (the cactuar with a flower on his head) in Florilegium (rare treasure; 1% drop chance) or -> buy a natureghostbracelet (whatever it's called in English XD) from Sanctum F&E for 120.000G; turn it to a Goddessshin Accesoire, max and dismantle it for a ribbon => Can make a super-ribbon out of ribbons, not yet sure how, though

Okay so I totally dont understand how the upgrades work so haven't been doing anything.
Also, I'm not too sure if I like the battle system in this one...

@ raagy: the upgrade materials are divided into 2 categories: 1. some materials are just good to boost the multiplier (maximum is 3%) 2. and some materials have high values
So usually you use the materials that multiply first and then you use the high-value materials so they upgrade your weapon alot more than they usually do. (Organic and non-organic I think)
About the battle system: To be honest I thought it was totally boring at first. But when you finally get the chance to use all jobs (manipulator and augmentor are pure WIN!) I actually think it's not too bad at all.
The thing I dislike about this game though is that you aren't able to explore the whole world.
