Summer Break is Nearly at an End

Galleon
Communal efforts are an essential aspect of Final Fantasy XI. There are not many things one can do within the game that do not involve getting aide from the greater community of which you belong. And so, Galleon is proud to present some of the great achievements from past months.

Dynamis

After only just one attempt at Dynamis-Tavnazia, we progressed to the point where we were able to obtain all the time extensions without issue. Such a feat is nothing but a testament to the leadership and the quality of the members in the linkshell. Everyone has a part to play and they all did a great job.

We recently finished up our two in-house relic weapons. Everyone in Galleon and SecondSkin sends a major congratulations over to Ponskun for finally completing the Claustrum and Mingus for completing Mandau!

You both have put so much work in SecondSkin that is the least that we could do for you. I still remember the day that Ponskun donated a timeless hourglass so that Galleon could try out Dynamis as a linkshell. After seeing how successful it was, Mingus and the other officers got excited about an in-house Dynamis. About a year ago, we retailored our currency distribution scheme and here we are today with two relic weapons completed from SecondSkin currency. Again, congratulations you two.

Salvage

The operose road for Salvage is discouraging and disappointing for many, but we've been blessed with success even here. In our early attempts, we struggled with Long-Bowed Chariot. We've tried various methods for killing it and have finally settled on straight tanking with heavy damage dealers performing a dual role of damage dealer and tank. We've also managed to tweak our strategy and successfully kill Long-Armed Chariot also. In the future, we hope to tackle Battleclad Chariot and Armored Chariot.

We've somehow managed to obtain four Macha's Robes in the time span of two months. Salvage isn't a very drop rate friendly place, but I'm rather pleased at our progress so far. Good job to everyone that has put forth a significant amount of effort and good luck to those in the future.

Congratulations to those who have completed Salvage armor. In order, we present the list of those who have achieved major progress:

  • Skadi's Jambeaux - Mingus
  • Usukane Hizayoroi - Walnut
  • Morrigan's Robe - Elira
  • Marduk's Shalwar - Nyoneme
  • Morrigan's Cuffs - Katlyn
  • Marduk's Dastanas - Asera
  • Morrigan's Robe - Katlyn
  • Skadi's Jambeaux - Linxer
  • Morrigan's Robe - Iresire
  • Marduk's Dastanas - Elira
Einherjar

Like most of the other HNM linkshells, we decided to try out Einherjar. The idea seemed interesting and simple enough, but the implementation turned out to be a disaster. Like many things in this game, everything is based on luck. We came to the conclusion that success would only be possible most of the time when entering with near the maximum thirty-six people. Since we had a difficult time getting more than twenty to show up, we decided to call this off when we only won once in several weeks. We are anticipate trying again in the future after the changes have been introduced.

Chains of Promathia

We've also remained active in the previous expansion's content. We recently switched our Bahamut II strategy from a manaburn to a TP burn. Bahamut was not able to withstand such an onslaught and he was quickly downed. While this method does provide a little bit of fun and interaction with Bahamut for melee, it is far less rewarding than the manaburn method. I only hope that future battle grounds will be more balanced to allow melee and mages to play together and actually maintain a challenge. Salvage is a great step towards this regard, but it is seriously lacking due to the underpinning problem with the game: the TP gain system. For normal monsters, the TP gain system is fine; however, for NMs the TP gain system is horribly broken.

Jailer of Love continues to be a walk in the park for us. Since Jailer of Love will not reposition himself to be in melee range of the person with hate, the only requirement for this fight is having lots of black mages and having someone to hold hate. Our members have toyed with various different ways of holding hate. The best method so far seems to be PLD/RDM. With RDM sub, a PLD can monopolize hate against a PLD/WAR or NIN/WAR until the other tank reaches the hate cap a considerable amount of time later.

We're all eagerly anticipating Wings of Goddess. I personally hope that Square has learned some things from their past mistakes and that the game will continue to be enjoyable.
